Longing and distraction from everyday life. New albums by SONORA artists

One can feel a breath of optimism and a longing for freedom in the latest albums of SONORA artists. "Rarely has one heard these dances so glowing and seductive, so differentiated and rich in nuances as here" writes Remy Franck, awarding the highest Supersonic Pizzicato mark to the latest album Virtuoso dances by Linus Roth and José Gallardo. Among his dance favorites, the German violinist chose pieces by Bartók, Stravinsky, Brahms, Wieniawski among others. The album released by Evil Penguin Classics also includes Le Grand Tango by Astor Piazzolla, who would be celebrating his 100th birthday this year. This dance, recorded with José Gallardo, is characterized by a very special authenticity and energy.

This anniversary is also being celebrated by Oscar and Claudio Bohórquez, violinist and cellist, who were joined with Gustavo Beytelmann, a pianist who has worked with Astor Piazzolla since 1977. The Patagonia Express album presents a complete picture of Argentina's most respected tango composer. Music critics of RBB Kultur chose the album as the album of the week [listen to the broadcast]. SONORA promotes Trio concerts in the jubilee program [more information about the project here].

The violist Nils Mönkemeyer, together with the ensemble l´arte del mondo, in his new album Italiano discovers virtuosity in the music of Vivaldi, Tartini, Paganini and his teacher Alessandro Rolli. The album is a co-production of WDR Radio Cologne and Sony Classical.

Finally, DUX has released an album by Mihkel Poll, who recorded Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 and Tubin’s Concertino with the Estonian National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mihhail Gerts [watch video preview]. "With a dazzling playing, Mihkel Poll, moves through the sound structures, perfectly controlling the keyboard. He added to the concert his personal characteristics of interpretation, known from his other albums, such as lyricism, subtlety and youthful passion" - writes Robert Ratajczak on the album at LongPlay.
