Programs for Mieczysław Weinberg's 100th anniversary

At the occasion of the 100. birthday of Mieczysław Weinberg, several SONORA artists plan to celebrate this anniversary by performing the composer's works. We invite you to join the celebrations of Mieczysław Weinberg's birthday together with our artists.

The German ECHO Klassik Award winner, Linus Roth counts among the most active ambassadors of Mieczysław Weinberg's music. He is also the first artist to have recorded the complete violin works of the composer: ranging from the Sonatas for solo violin and the ones with piano to the Concerto for violin and orchestra.

In the 2019-2020 season, Linus Roth will curate and perform two days of Weinberg's music at Wigmore Hall in London where he will program series of concerts presenting Mieczysław Weinberg's chamber music. He will perform six concerts with friends and fellow musicians, among others with José Gallardo, Janusz Wawrowski and Danjulo Ishizaka.

Linus Roth, who has recorded Weinberg's Violin Concerto with the Deutsches Sinfonie-Orchester Berlin and has also played the German Premiere of it, will perform this work as well as the Concertino and Rhapsody on Moldavian Themes with various orchestras in Europe and in the world already from 2018 on and throughout the year of the anniversary.

Thomas Sanderling has known Weinberg personally and has great merits in promoting composer's music, including numerous premieres, to mention the premiere recording of Weinberg's Requiem, realised with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the opera Idiot, presented for the first time in 2013 in Mannheim.

Thomas Sanderling performs regularily Weinberg's symphonic works (twenty two Symphonies, as well as number of concertos and other symphonic works), discovering them for the public worldwide.

Polish cellist Bartosz Koziak, plans to record Weinberg's Cello Concerto (along with Shostakovich Cello Concerto No.1) together with the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Thomas Sanderling - the CD premiere and concerts promoting the project are planned for 2019.

Polish flutist Łukasz Długosz plans performances of the virtuoso Flute Concerto No.1, op. 75 with string orchestra, as well as the late Flute Concerto No.2, op.148.
