Cohaere Ensemble is a Polish ensemble performing Baroque and pre-Classical music on historical instruments.
The name Cohaere, meaning cohesive and inseparable, is inspired by the physical phenomenon of cohesion. This concept refers to the resistance of a physical body to being divided, a resistance characterized by strong intermolecular forces that bind particles together. The ensemble brings this idea into their reality – during concerts, they interact with the audience, with works from hundreds of years ago, and most importantly, with one another. It is also worth noting that physical bodies are made up of atoms, each with its own space, and each member of Cohaere remains an individual within the ensemble.
On the other hand, ensemble refers to a group, a community. Defying the laws of physics, Cohaere maintains its coherence even when separated – musicians are not restricted to a fixed lineup, allowing for flexible collaborations in duets, trios, and orchestral formations.
Since 2020, Cohaere has been growing and performing in France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Croatia, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Poland. The ensemble has appeared at the most important Polish early music festivals, such as Misteria Paschalia, Actus Humanus, Kromer Festival Biecz, Bach Festival Świdnica, and Silesia Sonans, as well as at international festivals including Musiques Baroques à Savennieres, Oude Musik, Fringe Torroella L’Estartit, Festival d’Ambronay, Kvarner Festival, Les Apartés, and Concentus Moraviae. They have also performed in venues such as Centro di Musica Antica Ghislieri, Radio France Musique, and NOSPR.
Cohaere has won numerous international music competitions, with their most significant achievement being the 1st prize at the CIMA – International Early Music Competition in Loire Valley in 2021. From 2022 to 2024, Cohaere Ensemble was part of the European project EEEMERGING+, supporting the most talented young early music ensembles. In the 2024/25 artistic season, the ensemble plans to record its first album and make its debut performance at the Actus Humanus Festival in Gdańsk.
