The Polish Radio Choir – Lusławice is one of the leading vocal ensembles in Poland. Founded in 1948, it has been performing for 75 years with a repertoire that encompasses both a cappella music and vocal-instrumental forms. The choir draws from the rich history of choral music while continually exploring new artistic approaches. By delving into traditions from various styles and eras, the ensemble creatively and modernly interprets them through its own vision of artistic language and distinctive sound.
The Choir’s activity is remarkably broad—its vocalists participate in projects that explore the relationships between sound, body, and space, interpret traditional songs, and tackle both pre-classical and jazz compositions. The ensemble has premiered numerous works by prominent contemporary composers such as Witold Lutosławski, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Wojciech Kilar. They also collaborate with modern Polish composers, including Agata Zubel, Aleksander Kościów, Paweł Łukaszewski, Andrzej Kwieciński, Szymon Godziemba-Trytek, Aleksander Nowak, and Paweł Mykietyn.
The Polish Radio Choir contributes to recordings of major works from Poland’s vocal and vocal-instrumental repertoire. Many of their performances are broadcast or rebroadcast on Polish Radio or through the European Broadcasting Union. The Choir also performs regularly at national and international festivals such as Wratislavia Cantans, the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, the Festival of Premieres in Katowice, Warsaw Autumn, the Polish Music Festival in Kraków, Sacrum Profanum, the Gaude Mater International Sacred Music Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Rossini Opera Festival, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the City of Derry International Choir Festival.
The Polish Radio Choir frequently collaborates with the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, the New Music Orchestra, and the Beethoven Academy Orchestra.
On the occasion of its 75th anniversary, the Polish Radio Choir launched the Polish Radio Choir Academy – a special educational and artistic project aimed at students from Polish music academies. This initiative provides a platform for gaining new experiences, developing vocal skills, and expanding ensemble singing techniques. The artistic director of the ensemble is Maria Piotrowska-Bogalecka. In the 2024/25 artistic season, the choir’s highlights will include performances of Wagner’s ‘Der fliegende Holländer’ with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra under Tarmo Peltokoski in Luxembourg and Brussels; a tour with the European Union Baroque Orchestra; and the choir’s first full season at the Penderecki Center in Lusławice.
